Social Media to Enhance Profession

How could you use social media to enhance your performance in your profession?

  1. I believe social media can enhance my professional performance through the usage of #Hashtags, discussion boards, and private groups to further facilitate class discussion and meetings.

  2. One of the main ways I could enhance my performance is to engage in or even lead chats and discussions on Twitter. There is an active community of librarians on Twitter (often referred to as #LibraryTwitter) that I have not fully engaged with. As part of my outreach responsibilities, I have thought about creating an Instagram account for my library to help better engage students. I find that younger college students are not engaging with our Facebook and Twitter accounts, so using Instagram might help better connect students with the library.

  3. I would use social media by having a youtube channel and adding videos to my playlist for the students to watch. I would also have them discuss the video through a group on twitter or facebook. I think it is important to get the students talking and working on some type of social media because they will be doing it the rest of their lives. Also, I could make a teacher instagram that could either show off my students work (with parent permission) and there may be assignments or videos that the students have to watch for the class.

  4. I am very excited to learn more about Twitter during this course. I know what Twitter is but I never really thought of it as something that could enhance my teaching. I would like to improve my professional social media presence by creating a Twitter account and learning from educators from around the world in the hopes to improve my knowledge and ideas in the classroom. I am hoping to use Twitter to promote daily happenings in my classroom to create a strong home-to-school connection with students and parents as well as learn from other individuals in the profession.

  5. In my profession there are a lot of tools that could be used to benefit my students. I think the best thing you can do with social media as a teacher is learn from others in your field. I love going through Twitter and looking at fun ideas that wellness educators are using across the country. Learning from what others are doing and if it works or it doesn't, it only makes you a better professional.

  6. I would like to find more ways to promote dyslexia awareness among current educators. Facebook and Instagram are places I can post, but I need to learn more about ways to make sure my friends/followers want to stop and read instead of scrolling past.

I'm also interested in seeing what Twitter is all about. I have never engaged in professional discourse on Twitter. I'm curious to see how this can help me to remain connected to the network of professionals in the world or dyslexia research and practice.

  7. I listened to a couple of podcasts on how to improve your LinkedIn profile. There was a lot of information guiding you to publish articles on the site. Although I have not written articles that I feel are worthy to share. I am definitely going to look into while in this program.

  9. I think that I can use social media to enhance my performance in my profession in that it can help to showcase what all I do in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. By posting about the different events and activities that I participate in within the school and the community, this will help to show co-workers, parents, and families how involved I truly am. As a gifted teacher that are a lot of opportunities that I take advantage of with my students including MathCounts, K'Nex competitions, Gov STEM, Challenge 24 Competition, and so on. Not only will it showcase me as a professional, but it also gets to showcase the students successes in each field/competition that they participate in. It could also be a great way to advertise these opportunities for the students to get a true representation of what they may be getting into if they choose to participate.

  10. If I had the extra time I could use social media to enhance my professional career. I would connect with as many professionals all around the world to share ideas and practices to enhance my teachings and grow my knowledge in any area. I could lead and inform others about my personal passions within the realm of special education.

  11. In my ideal classroom situation, I would foster the creation of student content for the use of a class-run or their own personal social media accounts. In all of my units, I give students the ability to personalize their learning and choose (with guidelines) what they would like to create to demonstrate their skills. It would be an absolute dream to hear one of my student's compositions trending on a social media platform, knowing that I have helped them set up for successful content creation and they have the skills to continue as they wish.

I can also use social media as a way to connect with other musicians and educators so that I can share their knowledge and expertise with my students. I have collaborated with many colleagues over zoom this year, and it could be great to invite them into my classroom's virtual space so they can interact and promote new ideas to my students.

  12. Social media has enhanced my profession through collaboration with other music educators on Facebook. Some of the teacher groups I am in have been my saving grace. It is amazing that so many teachers are so willing to give expertise, advice, and lesson plans; specifically at the beginning of the pandemic.

  13. I could use social media to engage my students and create a place to show off their accomplishments. I think I use social media already to enhance my work by connecting with other French teachers and finding great resources. I think it would be good to use the other end of these platforms and start publishing some of my work and my students' work.

  14. The opportunities to use social media for professional growth are endless! Connections with other educators can be made, professional development opportunities are shared, and even the availability of resources in certain groups on Facebook are endless! Staying current on best practices in education is so important, and for me, social media this is the easiest way to access the information!
